The Ultimate List of Family-Friendly Summer Events in Atlanta

June is just around the corner, and the kids are done with school. The summer break can feel like forever, but don’t panic! We’ve assembled a comprehensive list of family-friendly Atlanta-area events that you can use to plan out the perfect summer of fun!

There are a few major attractions with great summer specials running from July – August, so definitely take advantage! The CityPASS gets you into the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, CNN Studios, either the Atlanta Zoo or the Center for Civil Rights, and either the Fernbank Museum of Natural History or the College Football Hall of Fame. That’s a lot of sight-seeing! If you’ve already visited these signature spots, take a look at the other options we’ve compiled for each month.

June Events

Free movies and festivals galore! June is loaded with kid-friendly events and unique fests to fill every weekend of the month. Grab a blanket and some popcorn and chose your own adventure at Movies on the Town, Georgia Movies in the Park, or the Mable House Amphitheater. Each has their own great line-up of showings you and the kids will enjoy.

If you’re looking to branch out beyond the cinema, check out the month’s festival line-up, which includes the enchanting Georgia Renaissance Festival (June 3-4), the Arcade Game Expo (June 9-11), the Bicycle Festival (June 10-17), and Summer Fun Festival (June 17)! If your family loves the arts, visit the Caribbean Cultural Festival (June 17), AthFest (June 23-25), or the Old Forth Ward Park Arts Fest (June 24-25).

July Events

From Stone Mountain to Centennial Park to Roswell and Alpharetta, Atlanta has your Fourth of July plans covered. There are Independence Day celebrations happening across the region, so you won’t be at a loss when making your Fourth plans. After the fireworks fade, make plans to experience Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Concerts in the Garden! Their Atlanta location will host big names like Michael Feinstein and Brandi Carlile, and their Gainsville location will host Jennifer Nettles in the month of July.

Does your kid have a passion for wildlife? Let them get up-close and personal with some cold-blooded creatures at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s Reptile Day on July 8! Not feeling the cold-blooded thing? How about a different type of cold? The Atlanta Ice Cream Festival on July 22 might be a sweeter option for everyone in the family. The Georgia Mountain Fair (July 21-29) is another awesome event for the family. Live music? Carnival rides? Arts and other attractions? Sign us up!

August Events

The month before school starts can be hectic, but not if you head to August 5’s Atlanta Back 2 School Food Festival! Admission is free, and your family can help underserved schools by bringing supplies to stuff the bus! There will be a parade, a dance competition, and tons of food trucks to chose from. There are a lot of other events to consider in August, including the Cool Dads Rock Soap Box Derby Festival (August 5), Water Day at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell (August 5),  and the Dinosaur Birthday Bash at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History (August 19).
