TEMPUR-Breeze 2023: Reviewing Tempur-Pedic's New ProBreeze & LuxeBreeze Mattresses

Think of mattresses like you think of cars. One is a vehicle that takes you to various places, the other is a vehicle that hopefully takes you straight to Sleepytown, LaLa Land, or wherever else you call a great night’s sleep. Much like the automotive industry, most mattress manufacturers don’t release new products or major redesigns every single year. So when a new mattress line does come out from a top-tier brand like Tempur-Pedic, we tend to get a little bit excited.

That’s why today we’re diving into Tempur-Pedic’s ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze mattresses - brand new for Spring 2023! In the TEMPUR-Breeze lineup review below, we’ll explain what Tempur-Pedic’s Breeze line is, what makes it special, how it works, and whether or not it’s a good fit for you.

What Is TEMPUR-Breeze®?

Did you know that 62% of American bedrooms have at least one “hot sleeper”? If it’s not you, chances are pretty high that your spouse or even your kids are part of that statistic. There’s also lots of data out there indicating that sleeping in a cooler environment increases your body’s production of melatonin, which helps regulate your circadian rhythm and sleep cycle. In fact, to sleep longer and deeper with fewer disruptions, most sleep experts recommend you sleep in a bedroom between 60°F and 68°F.

But how many of us actually keep our bedrooms that cool every night? Sometimes it’s just not practical. Enter Tempur-Pedic and their TEMPUR-Breeze mattresses.

Initially launched in 2019, Tempur-Pedic’s Breeze mattress line was created to solve this hot sleeper issue and provide measurably cooler sleep. That remains true with the latest lineup, as the purpose of the TEMPUR-Breeze mattresses is to offer sleepers the excellent support and comfort they’ve come to expect from a Tempur-Pedic mattress, while also creating the coolest-feeling mattresses on the market. Tempur-Pedic’s Breeze offerings include two models, the ProBreeze mattress and the LuxeBreeze mattress.

How Do TEMPUR-Breeze Mattresses Like LuxeBreeze & ProBreeze Work to Keep Sleepers Cool?

For years, most foam mattresses had an issue with trapping body heat and overheating sleepers. While it’s true that just about every foam mattress out there these days has some cooling, ventilating, or moisture-wicking elements, none can compare to the measurably cooler sleep offered by TEMPUR-Breeze. Okay, but how do TEMPUR-Breeze mattresses work?

There are 3 key elements of each LuxeBreeze or ProBreeze mattress that you should know. Whether ProBreeze or LuxeBreeze, every TEMPUR-Breeze mattress has the features below. Let’s start from the top:

  1. Tempur-Pedic’s SmartClimate® top-cover is zipper-removable, washable, anti-microbial, and made from a soft, stretchy, performance fabric. Better yet, it’s made with proprietary, cool-to-the-touch yarns that feel cool as soon as you lie down.
  2. Next and perhaps most importantly is TEMPUR-Breeze’s Heat Diffusing Layer. This phase change material (aka PCM) is a thin layer that slowly conforms to the sleeper as the mattress absorbs their body heat. As this “phase change” occurs, energy (in the form of heat) is transferred away from the body and into the surfaces below. This keeps sleepers cool as they drift off to sleep.
  3. Finally, a two-stage layer of Pure Cool® (in ProBreeze) or Pure Cool® Plus (in LuxeBreeze) material is combined with Tempur-Pedic’s Ventilated Advanced Relief™ layer. Pure Cool and Pure Cool Plus keep sleepers cool through the night because it absorbs heat shed by the Heat Diffusing Layer, while the Ventilated Advance Relief layer increases airflow to give all that heat somewhere to go. These materials are only found in TEMPUR-Breeze mattresses.

What Are the Differences Between the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze & Tempur-Pedic ProBreeze Mattresses?

This is perhaps the most common question we get from shoppers regarding TEMPUR-Breeze. There are two key ways that these mattresses are different.

First, is in regards to the cooling. The most significant difference here is that LuxeBreeze mattresses have a noticeably cooler feel than ProBreeze mattresses. While the ProBreeze mattress feels 5 degrees cooler than a standard TEMPUR-Adapt mattress, the LuxeBreeze mattress feels a full 10 degrees cooler than a typical TEMPUR-Adapt. This is because the LuxeBreeze’s Pure Cool Plus layer is more effective at pulling heat away than regular Pure Cool material.

The Second key difference is more structural in nature. The Tempur-Pedic ProBreeze mattress is available in medium and medium hybrid feels. Meanwhile, the LuxeBreeze is available in soft, medium hybrid, and firm.

How Are The Brand New TEMPUR-Breeze Mattresses Different Than Past Models?

There are several updates to the new for 2023 Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze and ProBreeze mattresses that set them apart from earlier versions. For example, the subtle changes to the aesthetics, the addition of Tempur-Pedic’s new Ventilated Advanced Relief material, and an updated formula of their Pure Cool and Pure Cool Plus materials. However, from the perspective of the discerning mattress shopper, the only real difference you need to concern yourself with is that the new mattresses feel cooler than ever before.

Thanks to improved heat-diffusion and better ventilation, the new ProBreeze mattress feels 5 degrees cooler than standard TEMPUR material, where previous ProBreeze models only felt 3 degrees cooler. As for LuxeBreeze, the new for 2023 mattress feels an incredible 10 degrees cooler all night long compared to standard TEMPUR material, where LuxeBreeze previously offered sleepers an 8 degree reduction in temperature feel. When even a single degree of temperature reduction can make or break the sleep of someone who is overheating, a couple extra degrees of cooling may be just what you need!

Is a Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze Mattress or ProBreeze Mattress Right for Me?

That may bring you to ask, “Is a TEMPUR-Breeze mattress right for me?” Frankly, the answer depends on a couple of factors.

First, keep in mind that the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze and TEMPUR-ProBreeze are luxurious, premium mattresses meant for shoppers who place a high priority on the quality of their sleep. We advise our customers that these mattresses are a literal investment in their health, wellness and quality of life. Especially if you’re a hot sleeper that can’t get or keep comfortable through the night. However, we do understand that mattresses in this price range may not be a perfect fit for every shopper.

Second, if you don’t sleep in one of the 62% of American bedrooms with a hot sleeper in it, it may not be worth the extra price when other quality mattresses like the TEMPUR-Adapt or TEMPUR-ProAdapt may meet your sleep needs for less. However, if you do sleep even a little bit hot, a TEMPUR-Breeze mattress might just change your life.

As we stated above, many mattress manufacturers are now integrating various cooling features into their mattresses these days – but none of them compare to TEMPUR-Breeze. We firmly believe that nothing on the market compares to Tempur-Pedic Breeze mattresses when it comes to temperature regulation and keeping sleepers cool throughout the night.

However, maybe you’re skeptical of the claims of TEMPUR-Breeze feeling between 5 and 10 degrees cooler. Or perhaps you want to feel these mattresses for yourself to see if the cooling features are worth the price tag for you. Maybe you just want to lie on both the ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze to see which one you prefer.
