“Why are y’all closed on Sundays and Wednesdays?” When we reopened in May 2020 after our COVID-19 closures, we made a few changes to our store hours. While there were several reasons for these changes, each of them were made out of consideration for our customers and team members. Since then however, we’ve had numerous customers ask this question in store and online. There’s no time like the present, so lets get to answering!
“Wait, so y’all aren’t open Sundays? Why not?”
From the very start of Woodstock Outlet in 1988, we made a deliberate decision to be closed on Sundays. And that’s how we’ve done business ever since. For many stores in our industry, Sundays (and weekends in general) are among their busiest days for business. So why wouldn’t a furniture and mattress store be open on what could potentially be one of their busiest sales days? Don’t we like selling furniture or making money?
The honest truth? Of course we like selling furniture – that’s literally our business! But we also strongly believe in taking care of our WFMO family. We believe that by being closed every single Sunday, we’re leaving space for our team members to engage with “the three F’s” – faith, family, and fun. We don’t want to be the reason anyone is too busy to go to church, to spend time their family, or to have recreation outside of work. These things are absolutely critical to our team members, and as such, they’re critical to Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet.
“What about Wednesdays? Weren’t you only closed Wednesdays because of COVID?”
When we came back after our COVID lockdown, we decided to shorten our business hours from 9AM to 6PM. We also decided to close all of our stores on Wednesdays. Well, all of them except one, but read on for more about that!

These changes allowed us to take extra sanitization and distancing measures for the safety of both our customers and staff. Given the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, our new hours also allowed us to merge our staff into a single shift. This made things much easier when it came to navigating work schedules, potential COVID sick days, and team member temperature checks.
Perhaps most importantly, we changed our hours so that we could add appointment-only shopping in our Woodstock/Acworth store on Wednesdays. We did this to accommodate higher risk customers and those less comfortable furniture shopping in a busy showroom.
So why are we still closed on Wednesdays now that many of the pandemic’s symptoms have passed? It turns out that the new hours have brought some added benefits. So many of our customers have raved about their VIP furniture shopping experiences on Wednesdays. Wednesdays in Woodstock/Acworth are an especially great day to meet with our decorators and designers for that extra personal touch. As a bonus, we are also able to restock our showroom floor every Wednesday while minimizing disruptions to customers on the other days of the week.
Lastly, as we discussed above, the quality of life of our team members is very important to us. Well, our new hours and having everyone working the same shift has been great for the work/life balance of the whole WFMO family. In our opinion, a happy WFMO team makes for much happier customers.
“The Wednesday VIP thing sounds great, but what if I don’t have an appointment?”
So yes, it’s true – our Rome and Dallas/Hiram furniture stores, and our Canton, Kennesaw and Douglasville mattress stores are still closed on Wednesdays. However, our flagship Woodstock/Acworth showroom remains open by appointment.
If you happen to swing by Woodstock/Acworth on a Wednesday, we’ll definitely appear closed at first glance. But don’t let the closed gate to our front parking lot fool you! “What if I can’t make it during your updated business hours?”
We understand that these policies may make it more difficult for some of our customers to come visit. If you are one of those people, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, as that was certainly not our intention. But don’t worry, because we’ve got a couple solutions for you!
First, keep in mind that our website is always open, and we are more dedicated than ever to improving our customers’ online experience! Additionally, our customers are now able to schedule appointments before 9AM on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday at all three of our North Georgia furniture stores – Woodstock/Acworth, Dallas/Hiram, and Rome!
