What's the Difference Between Special Order Furniture and Custom Order Furniture?

Exactly what is the difference between special order and custom order? This is a question WFMO customers have asked on more than one occasion. In short, a special order is when we order a ready-made piece from the manufacturer that we don’t usually stock. Conversely, a custom order is when you, the customer, choose the frame and/or upholstery of a piece and we order it on your behalf. Read on to learn the finer points of special order furniture and custom order furniture below!

Why Special Order Furniture or Custom Order Furniture May Be Right for You

At WFMO, our goal is to offer better quality furniture at lower prices to literally everyone that walks through our doors. To fulfill this mission, we stock an absolutely staggering number of furniture pieces, in every style, for any budget. Most stores only carry a few featured brands. However, we stock dozens of high quality brands you can only find at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet! We want to have something for everyone.

Each and every day, customers walk into our showrooms looking for something very specific. You’ve probably been in this situation yourself! Maybe you’re looking for the perfect rustic dining set to complete the farmhouse look in your dining room. Or maybe you need just the right accent chair to bring your living room together. The majority of the time, we’re able to help our customers find exactly what they’re looking for. However, sometimes your interiors require that extra special touch. Below we’ll further clarify the difference between special order furniture and custom order furniture, and why they might be the perfect solution for you!

Special Order Furniture: If We Don’t Stock It, We’ll Order It!

Despite our massive warehouse and distribution center, sometimes we’ll get requests for furniture that we don’t keep in our regular stock. Unfortunately, our catalog of furniture is so large that we cannot keep all pieces stocked at all times. However, fear not! If a piece is made by any one of our nearly 100 manufacturers, we can usually get it for you.

For instance, if you see a particular bedroom set only in dark walnut brown in our showroom, but the manufacturer makes it in cherry, that’s no problem whatsoever! Our helpful, no-hassle team members are happy to let you know your special order furniture options. This is especially true with the brands featured in our Made in the USA Gallery. With these particular companies, most special order pieces are available for delivery with very little delay! This is because these manufacturers make and warehouse their goods here in the United States.

Custom Order Furniture: Made Just For You!

By contrast, custom order furniture is made just for you. No, we don’t employ a large team of carpenters and seamstresses in a hidden back room somewhere. However, we do carry tons of fabric and leather options for custom upholstery to order you a true one-of-a-kind piece of furniture!

With some of our vendors like England Furniture, you could get your custom furniture in as little as 12 days! Visit our showroom to see the thousands of fabric swatches we have available for custom order sofas, sectionals, loveseats and more! We have multiple premium furniture makers we partner with on custom upholstery. It would be our pleasure to serve you today!
