Around this time every year, our design savvy shoppers begin asking about the year’s hottest colors and trends. Especially those wanting to make a fresh, inspired, on-trend upholstery, area rug, or décor choice. Well, no design trend is more significant than Pantone’s Color of the Year.
Why is that? And who or what is Pantone?
Pantone is the international authority when it comes to cataloging colors. Think of them as the keepers of the world’s largest collection of paint swatches and crayon boxes. In short, Pantone indexes untold thousands of colors to help designers in many industries keep colors consistent across different projects. This holds true whether you’re making digital art, oil paintings on canvas, screen-printing t-shirts, or dying raw wool.
Each year, they also report on which colors are trending at various industry events like furniture or fashion shows. Everyone from upscale design houses, to upholstery makers, to graphic designers, to branding experts and marketing executives looks to Pantone for their insight on upcoming fashion and décor trends.
So what is the Pantone Color of the Year 2022? Allow us to introduce Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938). Read on for the details on this intriguing new blue-violet hybrid.
Pantone Color of the Year 2022: Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938)
For the first time ever, Pantone created a brand new color for their Color of the Year for 2022 – Very Peri (17-3938)! Typically, Pantone selects a shade from their vast catalog of colors. However, as we look forward and begin to emerge from the turmoil of the last couple years, they really wanted to break the mold for 2022.
Very Peri begins with the calm, cool stability of a classic, if somewhat pastel blue. However, much like these times of change, subtle violet undertones hint at a transition into a bright and hopeful future. Both carefree and bold, this particular shade dares you to try something courageous and different.
But don’t forget to have fun with it! From our perspective as furniture and décor experts, this color is surprisingly easy to integrate into your home. Depending on your existing décor and furnishings, a splash of Very Peri could fit very nicely on a new area rug, throw blanket, set of accent pillows, or other accessories. Conversely, if you want more than a little splash of color, a periwinkle or lavender accent chair could liven things up in that older space you’ve been wanting to update.
