The story of Mayo Furniture’s founding is a true all-American story. After serving his country during the Second World War including at the Battle of Iwo Jima, Marine Corps veteran and future Mayo Furniture founder Linn Mayo returned home to start a family with his wife Dean. Eventually, Linn, Dean, and their two sons, Mike and Gary, would become the very first four employees of Mayo Furniture when they opened the doors to their humble little warehouse-turned-factory in Texarkana, Texas in 1965.
It’s safe to say that they’ve grown a bit since then, now employing over 200 Texans and Arkansans. However, Mayo Furniture began as a small family business – and it’s still run that way today by Linn’s son Mike, and his three sons Stephen, Ben and Patrick. Their mission? To craft upholstered furniture that they’d be proud to have in their own homes and living spaces, and to do so with integrity and top-notch craftsmanship.

More than that, Mayo also offers shoppers one of the fastest custom order delivery timeframes in the industry, typically delivering pieces in 3 weeks or less!
“Is Mayo Furniture good quality?”
Mayo Furniture is excellent quality. Due to seemingly small things like durable 2.0 lb density foam (industry standard is 1.8 lb density) and mortise-and-tenon frame construction (which is rare to see in upholstery), Mayo has some of the best construction in the industry. If you don’t believe us, see this video where they throw one of their sofa frames off their factory roof to minimal effect.
Mayo is so confident in the quality of their products, that they include an excellent manufacturer’s warranty package with limited lifetime warranties on their seating’s frames, cushions, and springs / suspension systems. They are one of very few upholstery manufacturers in the industry to offer this level of guarantee. Meanwhile, swivel and glider mechanisms are covered for 3 years, and fabrics and leathers are guaranteed for 1 year.
“Where is Mayo Furniture made?”
All Mayo Furniture is proudly Made in the USA at their facilities in Texarkana, Texas with overwhelmingly American-sourced components. This is a huge part of who Mayo Furniture is at their core. In fact, they may just be the most “made in America” brand around.
How so? Well, as the Mayo family grew their business in Northeast Texas, they weren’t exactly close to the well-established hubs of American furniture manufacturing in places like North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or Mississippi. That means they didn’t really have access to many of the upholstery fabrics, foams, or other components manufactured in these regions. As a result, they had to source or produce many of these things for themselves. The end result is that while many brands in the industry get their materials from the same handful of suppliers – including many overseas – Mayo has their own uniquely American supply chain.

In our opinion, Mayo Furniture sits at a sweet spot that balances quality craftsmanship and value. As we stated above, Mayo makes very robust, excellent quality upholstered seating – all made here in America. For that understandable reason, Mayo Furniture isn’t the cheapest upholstery on our showroom floor. For those looking explicitly for the most affordable option, Mayo may not be your ideal solution. However, we’d argue that for the price you pay for a Mayo, you will get an excellent value that includes durable build quality, high-end upholstery materials, and sophisticated looks that other manufacturer’s regularly charge shoppers much, much more for.
