Must-Visit Local Holiday Events Around Town for 2019

Must-Visit Local Holiday Events Around Town for 2019

There’s always so much to do around the holidays. Cooking, cleaning, entertaining, office parties, family get-togethers, hosting out-of-town guests, and more. For most of us, December often unravels into a scheduling nightmare. It’s hard enough just to get organized and be ready for Christmas. However, rather than mindlessly going through the motions of the holiday season, we need to remember to take time to do what is important. Don’t miss the forest for the Christmas trees. Be sure to schedule some family time amidst the holiday madness. To help out, we’ve put together a list of local holiday events that will be fun for your whole family!

Each event below is located near one of our Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet or Woodstock Mattress Outlet locations. Of course, we understand that you probably won’t get to this whole list. However, if you live near Woodstock, Acworth, Dallas, Hiram, Canton, Kennesaw, Douglasville, Buckhead, Atlanta, or Rome, be sure to check out one or two of these local holiday events this year!

But whatever you do, don’t forget one of the most important local holiday events of all!  Did you know that Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet will have a visitor from the North Pole this Saturday, December 7th? Swing by our three WFMO showrooms from noon to 4pm to take free selfies with Santa Claus!

23rd Annual Woodstock Christmas Jubilee & Parade of Lights (Woodstock/Acworth)

woodstock christmas jubilee parade of lights

For the 23rd year running, the City of Woodstock is putting on their Christmas Jubilee & Parade of Lights this upcoming Saturday, December 7th! Only five miles from our Woodstock/Acworth store, there are tons of activities to do before and after the parade. Bring your whole family and experience the lighting of Woodstock’s giant Christmas tree, come see Santa, watch a free performance by the Elm Street Theater, have some great food and drink, and enjoy all the crafts and entertainment Woodstock has to offer! We hope you’ll join us in downtown Woodstock for this annual Christmas classic! Get all the details here.

Holly Jolly Fest 2019, Dallas Christmas Parade, and Drive Up Christmas Live Nativity & Light Show (Dallas/Hiram)

If you’re closer to Dallas or Hiram, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. This year’s Holly Jolly Fest is sure to be a blast! Join your friends and neighbors on Saturday, December 7th for a morning of celebration before the Dallas Christmas Parade begins! Festivities include a live nativity, ornament decorating, letters to Santa and more. Stick around for the parade beginning at 1pm. However, if you’ve already got December 7th booked, you should check out Hope Church’s Drive Up Christmas Live Nativity & Christmas Light Show. On the nights of December 13th through 15th, there will be shows running every 15 minutes from 6pm to 8pm. Warm yourself by the campfire and enjoy some free hot chocolate and s’mores!

All Aboard for Holiday Fun at The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History (Kennesaw)

kennesaw southern museum and the polar express

This is definitely one of the more unique local holiday events on our calendar! Have you ever been to the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History? On Saturday, December 14th, the museum is hosting a special event for kids of all ages. Included with regular admission, they’ll have several extra activities for the kiddos with the highlight being two different screenings of the classic Christmas film, The Polar Express. If you’ve got little ones who love trains, or if watching (or reading) The Polar Express is among your family Christmas traditions – this event is a must!

Atlanta Christkindl Market and Skate the Station (Atlanta/Buckhead)

Exactly what is a “Christkindl Market”? Think of it as Oktoberfest, but for Christmas. Oh, and entry is free too! Take in centuries of German holiday tradition daily from now until Christmas Eve at Centennial Olympic Park. The Atlanta Christkindl Market is quite possibly the largest Christmas festival in Atlanta, and includes shopping, authentic German food and drink, workshops, music, and entertainment for all ages! If you’ve got time left after your trip to The Market, swing by Atlantic Station for Skate The Station – the biggest outdoor ice-skating rink in the Southeast. Both of these events are perfect for the whole family or for that date night you’ve been trying to escape for!

Christmas in Canton (Canton)

Christmas in Canton

This upcoming Friday, December 6th, the City of Canton will be having a Christmas celebration of their own. Block off a few hours this Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm to join your friends and neighbors for Christmas in Canton. Festivities include the annual Christmas tree lighting in Cannon Park, visits from Santa and his reindeer, face-painting, balloons, reindeer games and Christmas crafts for the kids. But that’s not all! Be sure to come by and make your own wreath, eat s’mores, sing carols, decorate some Christmas cookies and get in some Christmas shopping at many of the local shops who have extended their hours just for this event! See all the details on the Christmas in Canton Facebook Event page.

Christmas Back Home (Rome)

What kind of music are you into? Regardless, the City of Rome has something for you! Since 2017, Rome has played host to a wonderful concert series called Christmas Back Home. Comprised of an eight-piece all-star band, Christmas Back Home plays time-honored classic holiday songs with their own delightful twist of rock & roll, jazz, and blues. Their quirky take on classic Christmas carols is fun for the whole family and has something for everyone. Get your info and tickets here for December 13th and 14th in Rome, or December 19th in Dallas!

Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park (Douglasville)

Lastly, we come to our recommendation for Douglasville. What better than a December trip to Six Flags? Especially since they’ve transformed the whole park into a winter wonderland for Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park event! For six years running, Six Flags has hosted Holiday in the Park. On top of all the normal attractions and roller coasters, they’ve got millions of festive Christmas lights, Christmas trees, festive holiday treats, visits from Santa Claus, fire pits for roasting s’mores, special live shows, real Christmas carolers, and more! Keep in mind that unlike the Summer season, Six Flags is only open with a limited schedule, so be sure to plan ahead.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet!

That concludes our list of must-visit local holiday events for 2019. We hope you enjoyed this list and have a chance to enjoy a number of these festivities this holiday season! Don’t forget to visit our Woodstock/Acworth, Dallas/Hiram, and Rome stores this Saturday to hang out with Santa! Don’t ask us how it’s possible for him to be at all 3 WFMO locations at once (Christmas magic perhaps?), but we promise he’ll be here from 12 to 4pm. Even if your Saturday plans include the Woodstock Christmas Jubilee & Parade of LightsHolly Jolly Fest, or the Dallas Christmas Parade, swing by our nearby showrooms before or afterward to say “Merry Christmas” to old St. Nick.

Finally, did you know that you can still get a totally customized set of living room furniture in your home by Christmas? Come back to the WFMO blog later this week to find out how!
