Why Do Many Furniture Stores Have So Little Inventory?
Given the ongoing supply shortage and production delays in our industry (among others), furniture shoppers are concerned. And rightfully so. Over the last couple years wait times for both regular production and custom order furniture are as long as they've ever been.
That means more time between when we order furniture and when it’s delivered to your door. This is something we wrote about in an in-depth article about COVID-19's impacts on the furniture industry and the supply chain.
There are several factors in play here. Shortages in labor means that factories aren't able to make products as quickly as before. As a result, many goods are now back-ordered. Meanwhile shortages in trucks, truck drivers, and cargo containers mean that transporting components and finished products now takes longer than before.
Fortunately, we've begun noticing improvement with many of our vendors when it comes to product availability and delivery timeframes. This is great news!

We know more than anyone that it’s hard to find furniture in this market. That’s why here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we have taken as many steps as possible to ensure that we have in stock furniture available to our customers.
First, we’ve sought out and built relationships with North American vendors in the United States, Canada and Mexico. These companies offer us shorter transportation times since the merchandise doesn’t ship from overseas.
Second, we buy big, so you can save big. We order in large quantities so that we can get better pricing and so that merchandise can come in fewer shipments. This also means more inventory furniture in stock for you to browse.
Lastly, for many of our manufacturers, we are a premium or preferred retailer. This is because we have a long-established track record of paying our vendors in full and on time. Because of these good working relationships, we sometimes get first choice from manufacturers when furniture does become available. That means that sometimes we may have access to products and quantities other stores don’t.
