Spring is in the air! If your home is smelling musty or feeling stuffy from being closed up all winter, there are plenty of ways to make your home smell good. Take a cue from us, and you’ll feel fresher and have things smelling better in no time!
1. Light up a scented candle.

Candles are an easy way to make a room look and smell great.
We love the look and smell of candles placed strategically throughout our homes. Lighting up a scented candle is a great way to freshen up how a room smells while you relax.
Many candles smell great even when they’re not burning. We love hand-poured soy wax candles like those created by Mad Darling and Joshua Tree Candle Company.
2. Try aromatherapy.
Essential oil diffusers and aromatherapy are all the rage and for good reason. Essential oils, which are organic compounds extracted from plants, have been prized for centuries for their healing properties.
Each type of essential oil offers different benefits. For example, lavender is relaxing and eucalyptus can help with respiratory issues. There are many different affordable essential oil diffusers on the market today to choose from.
3. Simmer the smells.
If you don’t want to invest in an essential oil diffuser, you can get back to basics and use what’s in your kitchen instead. Use a small saucepan to simmer some water along with citrus slices or herbs such as mint or lavender. Just like the smells of cooking real food, this method will help these smells permeate your home.
4. Freshen up with flowers.
Who doesn’t love having fresh flowers in their home? Whether you visit a local florist or bring in fresh flowers from your garden, a bouquet is a wonderful way to make any room smell lovely.
5. Place some potpourri around your room.

These vases from our Acworth furniture store could make your room smell great if filled with some potpourri.
Potpourri doesn’t have to evoke the 80s. While there are lots of pre-packaged potpourri varieties, you can also go DIY and make your own. If you love the smell of potpourri but having a bowl of it out on your counter doesn’t suit your aesthetic, consider filling an opaque vase with potpourri or even something simple like fresh cedar chips.
6. Air it out.
Spring is the perfect season to open the doors and windows and let your house air out. Let the fresh air flow in while any musty or stale odors fly out of the windows.
7. Clean your garbage disposal and trashcans.
Stop odors where they start and spend some time cleaning out your garbage disposal and sanitizing all of your trashcans.
For the garbage disposal, you can run lemon, lime or other citrus rinds through the disposal, followed by lots of water. If the smell lingers, add a 1/2 cup of baking soda while you run warm water down the drain.
After you empty your trashcans, be sure to spray some Lysol or other deodorizer. You can also add baking soda to soak up and prevent smells.
