Let’s Hang! How To Hang Artwork Like A Gallery Pro

So, you just snagged a gorgeous new piece of artwork from our Loft section, and you want to hang it perfectly… how do you make that happen? There is a surprisingly easy method you can use for hanging your art, but it does require a tiny bit of math.

It’s a game of inches.

Our showroom is filled with gorgeous pieces just like this!

Art galleries and museums all have one thing in common: they hang their art at eye level. What’s considered “eye level,” you might ask? Well, according to Apartment Therapy, it’s 57 inches on center. “On center” means the middle of your artwork should be at the 57th inch on your tape measure. It may seem odd, but an eye-level piece is more aesthetically pleasing, and it better complements the other elements in your space.

But what about multiple pictures and paintings for a gallery wall? Think of them as one large piece, arrange them how you’d like on the floor, then start with your primary piece at 57 inches on center.

So, let’s get hanging!

This beauty is ready for it’s home gallery wall!

Follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Measure 57” up from the floor and lightly mark the spot with a pencil
  2. Measure the total height of the artwork and divide it by two. That tells you the center of the piece.
  3. Measure the distance between the frame’s hanging wire and the top of the frame. Subtract the hanging wire distance from the half-height amount. That gives you the length from the center of the piece to the actual hook’s location.
  4. Take that length and add it to the 57” you measured in the first step. That is where you will hammer your nail or hook for hanging.

If done correctly, your new art will be at eye-catching eye level!
