Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we know the furniture industry. Over the last 30+ years, we’ve realized that there are a number of furniture brands shoppers frequently ask about. Hooker Furniture is definitely one of them. So are Bradington Young and Sam Moore.
What do these brands have in common? Are they good quality? Where can you find them? And perhaps most importantly, are they a good fit for you and your home? By the end of this article, we promise that you’ll have these answers and more.
Is Hooker Furniture Good Quality?
Hooker Furniture is based in Martinsville, Virginia and has been in the furniture business for nearly a century. Over that time, they’ve earned a reputation for making and importing very high quality furniture. Especially casegoods like bedroom sets, home office furniture, dining sets and living room accents. However, they do carry their own line of leather upholstered seating as well.
Today, they continue to live up to the same standard of excellence with every product they make. Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we’d classify Hooker as an upscale, mid-to-upper end furniture brand.
Hooker prides themselves on making stylish, refined furniture for every single room in your home. These days, they source their furniture globally, with factories from North America, to Central America, to Asia. Just know that anything with the Hooker name on it carries with it a century-long reputation for quality.
Do Y’all Carry Hooker Furniture?
Shoppers come into our North Georgia furniture stores all the time asking for Hooker Furniture. In fact, you may be reading this because you are wondering where to buy Hooker Furniture or asking yourself “Where can I find Hooker Furniture near me?” Well, the good news is that you can find it right here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet.
But that’s not all! In addition to Hooker, we also carry furniture from Bradington Young and Sam Moore. These sister companies are both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Hooker Furniture. Where Hooker is a “whole home” furniture manufacturer best known for their high quality wooden casegoods, both Bradington Young and Sam Moore specialize in upholstered seating.
However, that begs the question…
What’s the Difference Between Bradington Young & Sam Moore?
Technically both of these brands operate independently within the Hooker Furniture family of brands. However, once upon a time, these companies were completely independent from one another. Both Bradington Young and Sam Moore make upholstered seating right here in America – including chairs, sofas, recliners, and more.
So how are they different? Well, there are several things that set these two brands apart. However, the primary difference is that Bradington Young essentially operates as Hooker’s leather upholstery division. By contrast, Sam Moore makes fabric upholstery exclusively.
Bradington-Young
From the very beginning of Bradington Young in 1978, they’ve been passionate about two things — seating and leather upholstery. With the stated goal of “building high quality products for a fair price”, Bradington has become a premier manufacturer of leather chairs, recliners, sofas, sectionals and more.
Not only is Bradington Young made in the USA, but they are still bench-made by hand in Hickory, North Carolina — the same as always. What does bench-made mean? It means that an individual artisan upholsters and finishes the product by hand on a workbench, as opposed to being made using assembly line techniques or automation.
Additionally, all leather chairs, recliners, sofas, loveseats and sectionals feature genuine 8-way hand-tied coil suspension systems. For many in the industry, this is considered to be the standard for high-end upholstery brands. Lastly, Bradington makes their products exclusively with full grain and top grain leathers. They don’t use any split leather or leather match whatsoever.
If you’re asking is Bradington Young good quality, the answer is a resounding yes. Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we consider Bradington Young to be mid-to-upper tier quality, much like Hooker.
PS – If custom order is your thing, they do that too! Bradington Young’s 175+ leather options include aniline, semi-aniline and pigmented leathers in a variety of different colors.
Sam Moore
Although not quite as old as Hooker, Sam Moore Furniture has been manufacturing American-made upholstered furniture for over 80 years. By the time Hooker Furniture acquired them in 2007, Sam Moore was already a highly regarded maker of sofas, sectionals, loveseats, ottomans, swivel chairs, gliders, recliners, accent chairs, and more!
So where is Sam Moore furniture made? To this day, Sam Moore still makes and hand-finishes their upholstered seating in Bedford, Virginia, only an hour or so from Hooker’s headquarters. Is Sam Moore furniture good quality? Absolutely. We consider Sam Moore to be a mid-priced brand that delivers some high-priced looks.
Sam Moore’s real bread and butter are their chairs. If you’re in the market for a swivel glider, recliner, club chair, accent chair, or even a sectional sofa, Sam Moore makes some ridiculously nice upholstered seating for your living space. Unlike Bradington Young, Sam Moore’s upholstery lineup uses a sinuous spring suspension system instead of 8-way hand-tied coils. As a result, they are a bit more affordable, but not quite as durable. Otherwise, you’re getting similar quality as you’d get from Bradington Young.
In addition to regularly stocked products, Sam Moore also offers shoppers over 600 on-trend custom fabrics to choose from. These options include performance fabrics from 8 of the biggest brands in the upholstery industry, including Crypton, Sunbrella, LiveSmart, Revolution, and more. Simply choose a frame, choose a fabric, choose a finish for exposed wood areas, and you’re good to go. Whether you’re looking for a beach house look or something for your mountain cabin, Sam Moore can make it happen!
Are Hooker Furniture, Bradington Young & Sam Moore Right for You?
As you now know, each of these brands have something unique to offer furniture shoppers. Let’s review.
Hooker Furniture offers shoppers middle-to-upper end quality and style for a fair price. It is a good fit for those looking for upscale furniture for the whole home, especially home office, bedroom, dining and living room. Hooker also offers customers the peace of mind that can only come with a century of producing high quality furniture. That being said, Hooker’s lineup isn’t for those looking for cheap, entry-level furniture, or those who aren’t interested in imports.
Bradington Young is perfect for those customers shopping for mid-to-high end leather upholstery. It isn’t the most affordable leather upholstery, but the quality is amazing for the price. If high quality leathers and American-made furniture crafted the old-fashioned way is important to you, Bradington Young will be a great fit. If you’re willing to bend on one or two of those things, there are more affordable options out there.
As for Sam Moore, they have a mid-end upholstered seating line that is slightly more affordable and accessible than Bradington Young. Sam Moore builds and hand-finishes their upholstery here in America. However, unlike Bradington Young, Sam Moore doesn’t bench-make or 8-way hand-tie their seating. If these things aren’t a concern or you’re looking for something in the mid-range, Sam Moore may be absolutely perfect for you. Plus, the absolutely staggering number of available fabrics make Sam Moore a great fit for those looking to customize a new accent chair, glider, or recliner.
