If you’re here, chances are good that you’re shopping for some sort of power reclining furniture. Perhaps you already have a power recliner, power reclining sofa or loveseat, but realized all too late that the power cords aren’t long enough, or aren’t really compatible with your floorplan or power outlet layout. The result? Your beautiful living space is now an unsightly tangle of tripping hazards.
Already read our article on the benefits cordless battery packs can offer you? If so, it’s time to start looking at your options. Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we offer a couple different brands of power packs for your power reclining furniture.
Today, we’re diving into one of them – FreeMotion by Parker House. Read on for everything you need to know about FreeMotion battery packs, including the available models, their battery capacities, features and more!
Introducing FreeMotion by Parker House Furniture
The FreeMotion brand began as a battery pack solution developed internally within Parker House Furniture to accompany their Parker House and Parker Living power reclining upholstered seating — i.e. their power recliners, sofas and loveseats. Since then, FreeMotion has become an established brand in its own right.
Much of this success is because FreeMotion battery packs are designed to be compatible with motion furniture from the vast majority of furniture manufacturers. Another reason we love FreeMotion is their generous, industry-leading, 5-Year Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty.
Reviewing The FreeMotion Battery Pack Lineup
FreeMotion currently offers 3 different battery packs to consumers — the P25, the P50, and the P75. Each of these cordless battery packs have their own unique specifications, advantages and disadvantages that we’ll review below, along with their own recommended best use scenarios.
All three battery pack models (P25, P50 and P75) carry the same estimated standby charge of 15 months. This means that a fully charged battery will take an estimated 15 months to drain completely if not used. Additionally, each battery should only take approximately 6 to 7 hours to reach a full charge. And unlike most competitors, FreeMotion batteries can be operated while plugged in and charging. Lastly, two final features that you’ll find on every FreeMotion battery pack are the LED power indicator that shows how much capacity is left, and an audible, low-battery warning letting you know that your battery pack has fallen below 10% charge.
The information below includes the estimated number of cycles you can expect on a single charge. Extending a recliner and retracting it is considered a single cycle. However, it is important to note that features like LED lights, USB charging ports, charging pads, speakers, or other constant power draws can vastly reduce the cycle count per charge. Also, please note that installing your FreeMotion battery pack on a power sofa or recliner with these features (and no on/off switch for their power draw) will void the standard 5-year manufacturer’s warranty and be substituted with a partial, prorated 5-year warranty instead.
FreeMotion P25 Battery
The P25 is the smallest, most compact battery in FreeMotion’s lineup. It includes a 2500 mAh (milliampere-hour) battery which is good for up to 450 cycles.
FreeMotion recommends using the P25 battery pack to power a maximum of 2 reclining seats with 6 motors. For an example of how this works, a power reclining console loveseat with dual recliners (2 motors), adjustable lumbar (2 motors), and adjustable headrests (2 motors) would have a total of 6 motors. This is the maximum load recommended for the P25.
Honestly, the P25 battery pack is best suited for recliners. While it can work for reclining loveseats or sofas, please understand that additional motors and frequently fiddling with the functions that use them will reduce the number of cycles the battery can go before recharging.
Recommended Use: Recliners, Loveseats or Sofas w/ 2 Reclining Seats or Less
FreeMotion P50 Battery
By contrast, the P50 has twice the battery capacity of the P25 with a total of 5000 mAh. That means that FreeMotion’s mid-size battery pack is rated for approximately 900 cycles. Assuming that you like to recline an average of 2 to 3 times per day, you’d only have to recharge this power pack every year or so.
As for FreeMotion’s recommendations, the P50 battery pack is meant to be used for a maximum of 4 reclining seats and/or 9 motors. This makes it ideal for smaller sectionals (or those with fewer motors), and for power sofas and loveseats with extra power features like adjustable lumbar or headrests. Finally, the P50 is also a good fit for those with recliners who’d like to charge their battery pack much less frequently.
Recommended Use: Recliners, Loveseats, Sofas, Sectionals w/ 4 Reclining Seats or Less
FreeMotion P75 Battery
Finally the P75 battery pack carries the largest capacity of the FreeMotion battery lineup with a total of 7500 mAh. With a charge good for a whopping, estimated 1350 cycles, the P75 ensures that your power pack won’t run out of juice any time soon.
Regardless of what type of reclining furniture you’re planning on attaching to the FreeMotion P75 battery pack, please keep in mind that the manufacturer recommends no more than 5 reclining seats and/or 12 motors. The great news is that covers the vast majority of power reclining seating on the market today.
Recommended Use: Loveseats, Sofas, Sectionals
Which FreeMotion Battery Pack Is Right for Your Power Reclining Furniture Needs?
Which of these battery packs sounds like the best fit for your needs? What kind of furniture will it be powering? How many reclining seats does it have? How often will you use the reclining function on your power sectional, sofa, loveseat or recliner? Does it have additional features that draw power (such as USB ports) or additional motors for things like adjustable headrests or lumbar supports? If you’re uncertain about what size you need, we recommend going one size larger just to play it safe.
All of these things should be considered before you make your decision. Considering all this, do you think the P25 (2500 mAh), P50 (5000 mAh) or P75 (7500 mAh) cordless battery pack is best for your power sofa or recliner?
