Brand Head-to-Head: Comparing General Features Between Enouvation & FreeMotion

Generally speaking, how are FreeMotion battery packs and Enouvation power packs different? Aside from the specifications and capacities of the power packs themselves that we’ll dig into below, there are several main differences between FreeMotion and Enouvation power packs. However, almost all of these differences stem from a simple difference in construction.

Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) vs Lithium-Ion Polymer (Li-Po) Batteries

First and most importantly, Enouvation and FreeMotion batteries have a different chemical composition. FreeMotion’s batteries are lithium-ion batteries (often written as Li-Ion). Meanwhile, Enouvation’s batteries are a lithium-ion polymer (often written as Li-Po, Li-Polymer or Li-Poly). Both Li-Ion and Li-Po batteries are common battery types used in consumer electronics. However, each has their unique characteristics, pros and cons.

The choice to use different battery technologies here is what drives many of the other differences between Enouvation and FreeMotion batteries. FreeMotion’s choice of lithium-ion batteries means that they can be used while charging while Enouvation’s lithium-ion polymer power packs cannot. Also, since lithium-ion batteries can typically be recharged more times before failure than lithium-polymer batteries**, FreeMotion is able to confidently offer consumers a 5-year limited manufacturer’s warranty while Enouvation’s power packs carry a 1-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.

Lastly, lithium-polymer batteries like those found in Enouvation’s battery packs are a newer technology with a much smaller physical footprint. As a result, Enouvation is able to make their battery packs significantly lighter and smaller than lithium-ion batteries of a similar capacity (like those from FreeMotion).

**[Editor’s Note: Lithium-polymer batteries are still generally expected to last hundreds of charging cycles, so this comparatively lower cycle count is something that most consumers using power packs for their reclining furniture will never encounter, nor need worry about.]

Enouvation vs FreeMotion Product Comparisons by Battery Capacity

For ease of comparison, we’ve sorted our available cordless power pack models into 3 classes based on their battery capacity, measured in mAh or milliampere-hours. We’ll start with our small battery packs and work our way up to the largest.

Before we get started, it is important to note that all discussions on the number of reclining cycles to expect between charges are estimated. This number can vary based on a number of factors like the number of motors being powered, this includes those used to power adjustable headrests and lumbar supports.

Lastly, please remember that no matter which battery pack you choose, if your powered seating has features like USB charging ports, LED lights, speakers, etc. and does not have a manual on/off switch for them, they will constantly draw power whether they are being used or not. These features will drastically reduce the life of your battery pack, and thus require charging much more frequently.

Small Battery Packs (Enouvation E2 vs FreeMotion P25 vs Enouvation E4)

So what do we mean by “small”? These battery packs range between 1,800 mAh and 4,000 mAh capacity and are best used to power recliners. However, they can also power reclining sofas and loveseats with a few limitations. Here’s how they stack up against each other:

With just under 2,000 mAh of battery capacity, the Enouvation E2 is the least impressive of the bunch. With an estimated number of 350 and 400 reclining cycles per charge, it can only power a maximum of 2 motors – whether that be a sofa or loveseat with dual reclining seats, or a single recliner with a second motor for an adjustable headrest or lumbar. Recliners loaded with extra power features are probably too much for this battery pack to handle, however, the Enouvation E2 is still a great option for those simply needing a basic, reliable, compact battery pack for a no-frills power recliner.

FreeMotion P25 battery packs come with a slightly larger capacity of 2,500 mAh, and that comes with a few extra benefits. They are rated for approximately 450 reclining cycles, including up to 2 reclining seats and 6 motors. Which means that the FreeMotion P25 can power feature-packed recliners or even loveseats and sofas that the Enouvation E2 cannot. This makes it the perfect choice for just about any power recliner, while also being capable enough to handle most power loveseats and sofas.

Lastly, the Enouvation E4 has twice the capacity of its little brother the E2 with around 3,800 mAh. With an estimated 700 to 800 reclining cycles per charge, the Enouvation E4 is honestly in between our small and medium battery categories. However, it is somewhat limited by its ability to power a maximum of 2 reclining seats with only 4 motors total, 2 less than the FreeMotion P25. If you’re planning to power a recliner and the number of cycles per charge is the most important factor to you, we would take the Enouvation E4 over the others in this category. With that said, if you’re planning on running a recliner, power loveseat, console loveseat or sofa with extra motors, we’d recommend the FreeMotion P25.

Medium Battery Packs (FreeMotion P50 vs Enouvation E6)

These mid-size battery packs have a capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 mAh. As a result, they are made for powering full-featured, dual-reclining loveseats, console loveseats, and sofas. In other words, unlike some of the smaller packs above, there is more than enough juice to power additional motors for lumbar or headrest adjustment.

Additionally, these versatile options can be used with sectionals (again, with some limitations). We also recommend them for power recliners for those who would like to go a bit longer between recharges.

With a capacity of 5,000 mAh, the FreeMotion P50 has the smaller capacity of the two mid-size battery packs on our list. By contrast, the Enouvation E6 power pack has 6,000 mAh. This means that the Enouvation E6 is going to get you approximately 1,200 recline cycles per charge, while the FreeMotion P50 will only get you around 900 or so.

However, much like the comparison between the P25 and E4 above, the FreeMotion option is capable of handling more motors simultaneously. So while the Enouvation E6 can power 2 reclining seats and 6 motors, the smaller capacity FreeMotion P50 can handle up to a whopping 4 reclining seats and 9 motors. But what does this mean for consumers?

Well, the Enouvation E6 is perfect for just about any reclining loveseat, sofa or sectional with 2 seats or less, regardless of whether it’s got extras like adjustable lumbar or headrests. It’s also the better option if you want a higher battery capacity that is good for more recline cycles. However, the FreeMotion P50 is the more capable battery as it is able to power a large sectional with double the reclining seats and 50% more motors. Just understand that this extra capability comes at the cost of a lower capacity battery.

Large Battery Packs (FreeMotion P75 vs Enouvation E10)

Are you trying to power a sofa loaded with features, or a massive sectional with 3, 4, or even 5 reclining seats? These are the power packs you’re looking for. The power packs in this class have capacities ranging from 7,500 mAh to 10,000 mAh. This makes them suitable for just about any power reclining furniture, even if it is a bit overkill to use them for a single power recliner. Their ideal use is for full-featured reclining sofas and even large power reclining sectionals.

large-battery-comparison-p75-e10

FreeMotion’s P75 battery pack boasts the largest capacity in their lineup with a solid 7,500 mAh of power storage. Meanwhile, it’s competitor, the Enouvation E10 power pack, is an absolute behemoth of a battery with a massive 10,000 mAh of capacity. The P75 is rated for an estimated 1,350 recline cycles, while the E10 is rated for a staggering 2,000 motorized functions between recharges.

Other than the difference in capacity, the Enouvation E10 lives up to its brand name with a number of innovations found nowhere else on this list. This is thanks to Enouvation’s integrated Entelligence App for Android and iOS. Using this app, you can check the E10’s battery health, review usage and charging history, turn the unit on and off remotely, and program your own power alerts – all from your smartphone. Finally, due to its large capacity, the E10 is the only power pack on this list actually designed to be used with features with a constant power draw, like USB ports.

[Editor’s Note: Currently the E10 Power Pack from Enouvation is available at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet as a Special Order item. What this means is that we can certainly order one for you, but we may not have it in stock and available for immediate pickup.]
