Why England Furniture vs Kincaid Furniture?

Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we carry dozens and dozens of different furniture and mattress brands. But why do so many shoppers compare these two brands in particular?

Well, the truth is that England Furniture and Kincaid Furniture are sister companies under the larger La-Z-Boy umbrella. With similar product lines, especially when it comes to sofas and other upholstered seating, it’s only natural to compare them.

About England Furniture

England furniture logo

Despite occasional confusion about the origin of the company’s name, England is an established, reputable American furniture maker. Based in the Appalachian foothills of East Tennessee, they’ve been producing upholstered seating – sofas, loveseats, sectionals, recliners, and accent chairs – since 1964. In 1995, they were acquired by La-Z-Boy, but they’ve continued to operate as an independent division ever since.

England fits comfortably into the market as a mid-tier upholstery manufacturer. This means that they have a broad range of product lines, from budget-oriented to higher-end. Regardless of what you choose, you’ll get a durable piece made with quality construction and superior materials. This includes features like hardwood-reinforced frames made from thick frame-grade plywood, notched and interlocking joints, densely-arranged sinuous spring suspension systems, and self-healing zippers.

And since England Furniture’s claim to fame is their custom, made-to-order furniture, it’s super easy for shoppers to get exactly what they want with their next sofa, chair, sectional or loveseat. England’s custom order program features over 200 different frames and over 500 fabrics to choose from, including leathers and performance fabrics. Additionally, England is well known for having one of the shortest (if not the shortest) build cycles in the entire industry. That means your timeframe from order, to production, to delivery is extremely short.

How about after you’ve purchased a new England sofa, chair, sectional, recliner, or loveseat? You can rest easy, because England offers customers a generous and competitive warranty package. All England upholstery includes a lifetime limited warranty on frames and a 10-year warranty on cushions. They also include a 5-year warranty on springs, sleeper, glider, and recliner mechanisms, and a 1-year warranty on upholstery fabric and just about everything else.

About Kincaid Furniture

Kincaid Furniture is also an established and respected American furniture manufacturer. However, compared to England, Kincaid Furniture is a little higher-end, a bit more expensive, and has a broader catalog of products. In addition to the upholstered seating we’re comparing with England today, Kincaid also crafts hand-finished, solid wood furniture for bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms.

Founded in North Carolina in 1946, Kincaid has been an independent division within La-Z-Boy’s family of brands since 1998. Kincaid prides themselves in doing things the old-fashioned way. In fact, their company tagline is “At Kincaid Furniture, things are made the way they used to be – they may even be a little better.” As a matter of principle, Kincaid builds their furniture with the same craftsmanship and attention to detail as they did over 75 years ago. Since every Kincaid sofa, chair, ottoman, loveseat or sectional is benchmade (i.e. assembled and finished by hand), Kincaid Furniture is considered to be a little higher-end than England.

When it comes to Kincaid’s own custom order furniture program, they have a wider variety of premium options than England does, including 8-way hand-tied sofa springs, down-blend cushions and pillows, different cushion core densities, and high-grade fabrics. However, keep in mind that while Kincaid has typically faster-than-industry build times for custom order, it will likely be slower than with England.

Finally, Kincaid’s line of upholstered seating has possibly the best manufacturer warranty in the business. This includes an impressive lifetime warranty on all frames, springs, and cushions, along with a 3-year warranty on sleeper mechanisms, and a 1-year limited warranty on all fabrics and upholstery.

England vs Kincaid Summary

Let’s recap:

Upholstered furniture from Kincaid is benchmade by hand, and tends to be more expensive as a result. Also as a result, Kincaid’s fit-and-finish will be slightly nicer than England’s. Kincaid also offers shoppers multiple, optional, premium upgrades, such as 8-way hand-tied seating, and tons of extra options for cushions, pillows, and high-grade fabrics. Finally, Kincaid offers shoppers an impressive, industry-best warranty package including lifetime warranties on all frames, springs, and cushions.

England’s lines of upholstered seating are very well-built and durable. They also offer shoppers an excellent lifetime warranty on frames, 10-year warranty on cushions, and 5-year warranty on most springs and mechanisms. While England’s upholstery is indeed very good, it is also slightly lower quality, more affordable, and carries shorter warranties than Kincaid. However, England’s custom order process is remarkable with tons of fabric options and the quickest turnaround in the industry.
