Local Flavor: Our Favorite Local Restaurants in Woodstock / Acworth (Reviews/Ratings)

Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, we’re committed to answering your questions. Even when they have nothing to do with furniture! Honestly, one of our most frequently asked questions is “What do y’all got to eat around here?” That’s why today we are starting a brand new series, called Local Flavor. Keep scrolling to see what we think are some of the best restaurants around Woodstock and Acworth!

Both Woodstock and Acworth are chock full of great places to eat. In fact, there are so many that we couldn’t even fit them all in this article! So if your favorite spot isn’t here, don’t worry. We’re just scratching the surface, but there’s more to come!

Our Favorite Local Restaurants in Woodstock & Acworth

As many of y’all know, our flagship store is nestled right between Woodstock and Acworth on Hwy 92. Additionally, our Customer Pickup & Distribution Center is only a few miles down the road. So today’s post is going to focus on Woodstock, Acworth and the surrounding area. Don’t worry, if you’re a long-time customer of one of our other North Georgia furniture and mattress stores, we’ll give you the scoop on our favorite places to eat in those areas very soon!

As much as we try to streamline things, buying furniture isn’t always a quick process. And sometimes, our customers get hungry. Especially if they’ve been shopping for a while. For that matter, many folks drive a long way to shop with us and are unfamiliar with the area. Regardless, of why they’re asking, here are our answers of where to go…

Burger Inn

Burger Inn is an old school, no-frills burger joint that’s actually been here in Woodstock longer than we have! Known just as much for their breakfasts as their burgers, they make an amazing southern breakfast that might just put your grandma’s to shame (but please let her down easy, okay?) Their menu includes everything from burgers and dogs, to BLTs and steak sandwiches, to pies and shakes, to homemade biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Burger Inn is tasty, inexpensive, and has portions that certainly won’t leave you hungry.

However, there are two things you need to remember. First, while they do have a drive through, everything is made to order. Second, Burger Inn is only open for breakfast and lunch, so make sure you go early. If you’ve been to Burger Inn before and had a good experience, head to the Burger Inn Facebook page and give them a like. If not, pay them a visit and don’t forget to take your appetite with you!

Canyon’s Fresh Grill

Canyon’s is a long-time favorite craft burger restaurant and grill located along the main drag in downtown Woodstock [Editor’s Note: There’s another location coming soon to Riverstone Parkway in Canton]. Craving a quality, all-angus steakburger and a shake in a fun, family-friendly, fast-casual environment? How about catching a Braves game with friends on a nice, relaxing patio with a local craft beer or margarita in hand? Either way, Canyon’s just might be your kind of place.

The thing we love about Canyon’s is all of their burger options. Choose from their delicious menu of specialty steakburgers, or customize your own. If you’re not all about the beef, they’ve got chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers, black bean burgers, chicken tenders, salads, and more! Tired of regular fries? Well, it’s a good thing Canyon’s also has sweet potato fries, tots and onion rings. Be sure to check out their website (and menus) to see everything for yourself!

Cylantro’s Venezuelan Cuisine

Cylantro’s is another one of our favorite lunch spots here at WFMO. This family-owned business was founded in 2015 with the goal of sharing their Venezuelan heritage and culture through food. And boy is it good. Have you ever tried Venezuelan food? If not, you simply must give Cylantro’s a try! If you like Mexican, Cuban or other Latin American and Caribbean cuisines, you’ll like it. We promise!

While Cylantro’s has delicious dishes you’ll recognize such as empanadas, tacos and fajitas, their claim to fame is their legendary arepas. So what exactly is an arepa? Well, think of an arepa as a Latin American pita sandwich. Made of cornmeal and grilled to perfection, they are then stuffed with “fresh and delicious goodness” (their exact words). They even have twenty different varieties to choose from! Try them yourself at one of Cylantro’s three locations in Woodstock, Kennesaw, and Roswell, open Monday through Saturday.

Daddy’s Country Kitchen

Now this one is close to our hearts, because many of us have been going to Daddy’s for years. It is the kind of good, old fashioned, neighborhood restaurant that seem to be less and less common these days. And that’s unfortunate, because the world could use more places like Daddy’s Country Kitchen.

Just about anyone who has been there will describe Daddy’s the same way – down-home southern cooking and great service at a fair price. Oh, and they’ll probably rave to you about the sweet tea, fried chicken and amazing cobblers too! Order off of the menu, or enjoy their all-you-can-eat buffet. But either way, bring your appetite! Don’t forget to like and follow their Facebook page, as they frequently share updates on the buffet menu, daily specials and more. Daddy’s is open breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday.

Hacienda Vieja Mexican Restaurant

In English, “Hacienda Vieja” translates to “old estate” or “old homestead”. So the food and atmosphere at Hacienda Vieja are meant to feel welcoming, like a sort of homecoming. For the last eight years, Hacienda Vieja has done just that by offering some of Woodstock’s most tasty and authentic Mexican food in a trendy yet family-friendly environment, complete with patio seating.

When we asked our Woodstock/Acworth team members for restaurant recommendations, Hacienda Vieja just kept coming up. Maybe it’s the margaritas and mouth-watering fajitas. Maybe it’s the huge menu loaded with options. Or maybe it’s the fresh guacamole they make right at your table. Either way, we love this pick, and think you will too!

Izumi Asian Bistro

Can’t decide whether you want Japanese, Chinese, Pho or Thai for dinner? Just go to Izumi Asian Bistro in Woodstock, because they have it all! Complete with a sushi bar (and a massive sushi menu), Izumi also has hibachi and wok dishes, Thai curry, and pretty much all of your favorite Asian dishes. From California rolls and eel rolls, to Tom Yum soup, to General Tso’s chicken, we’ve yet to have anything here that wasn’t excellent. Izumi is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, but is open for dinner only on Sunday.

In fact, Izumi just celebrated a dozen years here in Woodstock earlier this year, so be sure to congratulate them when you stop by! If you’re closer to Cumming or Buford (or really anywhere off of GA-400), check out their other location in Cumming.

JD’s Bar-B-Que

Looking for a first class barbecue joint within a few minutes’ drive of our Woodstock/Acworth store and our Distribution Center? Look no further than JD’s Bar-B-Que! On top of their phenomenal sliced brisket, chopped pork, chopped chicken and baby back ribs, they’ve also got loaded spuds and skillets that are to die for. Oh and let’s not forget their appetizers – fried pickles, pimento cheese, hush puppies and more!

With one location in Woodstock, another in Acworth, and a third just up Bells Ferry Rd in Canton, JD’s has several restaurants within a stone’s throw of Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet. So if you’re in the neighborhood, you might as well check them out! Please keep in mind that their lakeside Canton location, JD’s on the Lake, is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Bonus Fun Fact: You may recognize JD’s on the Lake as the shooting location for the critically acclaimed Netflix series Ozark, where it portrayed the fictional Blue Cat Lodge.

Marietta Fish Market

Marietta Fish Market is widely regarded as one of the best seafood restaurants in Metro Atlanta. And we happen to agree! There are very few places to get truly fresh seafood in North Georgia. Fortunately for us, Marietta Fish Market only a short drive away! Between the atmosphere, the large portions, the fresh seafood, the made-from-scratch desserts, and the great service, dining at Marietta Fish Market is truly a wonderful experience. They are open for lunch on Saturday/Sunday, and for dinner seven days a week. If you haven’t been, you really need to go!

While not technically on today’s list, it’d feel wrong to not at least give a honorary mentions to Marietta Fish Market’s nearby sister restaurants – Marietta Diner, Pasta Bella, Cherokee Cattle Co.*(all three in Marietta), and Yeero Village (in the Sandy Plains Rd area of Roswell). Between them, you’ll find some of the best seafood, pasta, steaks, and Greek cuisine in Georgia. [Editor’s Note: Please note that Cherokee Cattle Co. is currently closed for extensive renovations]

Salt Factory Pub

If exposed brick and Edison bulbs is your thing, you’ll feel right at home at Salt Factory Pub. All three locations of this upscale gastropub (downtown Woodstock, downtown Alpharetta, and downtown Roswell) have a cozy atmosphere and a huge beer, whiskey, and wine list reminiscent of the quaint local pubs scattered across the British Isles. As a result, Salt Factory is truly the perfect blend of comfy and sophisticated.

But how is the food? In short, it’s fantastic! Regardless of whether your tastes are typical or gourmet, you’ll absolutely be able to find something to your liking. They have standard fare like burgers and pizza, but also fresh seafood, pasta, entrée salads and other eclectic creations inspired by everything from British pub food, to southern cooking, to Italian, Korean and Cajun cuisines. So whether you’re planning a business lunch or your next date night, Salt Factory is certainly a choice that will impress.

Taste of Italy

When we polled the team members at our Woodstock/Acworth store about their favorite nearby restaurants, Taste of Italy was a wildly popular answer. There have been countless times over the years where our own break room could barely contain the aroma of delicious Taste of Italy pizzas. To say that we’re big fans would be an understatement.

Regardless of whether you prefer New York Style, Sicilian, or their signature “Bruschetta Style”, Taste of Italy has some of the best pizza and pasta in town. But don’t sleep on their stromboli, calzones or Italian subs though! Gino, the owner and operator of Taste of Italy, is a first generation Italian American and his own authenticity is clearly evident in the quality of his food. They even make their own sauces from scratch, so you know it’s good! Check them out online and in person right off of Hwy 92 in Woodstock.

Thai Ginger

If you’re near our Woodstock/Acworth store and a fan of Thai food, you’ll need to check out this hidden gem. Take a right out of our parking lot, hang a right onto Bells Ferry, and you’re practically there. Just remember that they are closed between lunch and dinner, and are also closed on Mondays.

Thai Ginger’s Pad Thai and Tom Ka Kai (coconut soup) are absolutely top notch. In fact, there’s likely nothing bad on their entire menu! Their prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and their ingredients are always super fresh. Available for both dine-in and takeout. For quick and easy ordering, be sure to place your takeout orders online.
