Our Favorite Local Restaurants in Acworth

The unfortunate truth is that shopping for a mattress or furniture isn’t always a quick process. As a result, it’s normal for shoppers to get hungry. Especially if they’ve been browsing for a while. For that matter, many others travel a long way to shop with us and aren’t entirely familiar with the area. Regardless of whether you’re looking to grab breakfast before you come in to shop, grab lunch during a midday shopping break, or have a nice dinner out afterward, we’ve got a variety of great local restaurant recommendations for right here in Acworth.

With our flagship furniture store equal distance between Woodstock and Acworth on Hwy 92 and our Customer Pickup & Distribution Center only a few miles down the road in Acworth, Woodstock and Acworth are both practically in our own backyard. For our restaurant recommendations for Woodstock, check out Local Flavor: Woodstock here. For Acworth? Keep on scrolling to see a few of our favorite Acworth restaurants in alphabetical order…

1885 Grill

1885 Grill brings Southern coastal cuisine to downtown Acworth with a menu full of Southern staples, fresh seafood, and good old-fashioned hospitality. Whether you’re in the mood for shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, or something a bit more upscale like seared scallops or ribeye cooked to perfection, 1885 has a little something for just about everyone.

Located right off Cherokee Street in Acworth, 1885 Grill offers both indoor and patio seating in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Bonus: They’ve got a fantastic bar, a great selection of wine and cocktails, and they make a mean house sangria. It’s a great place for a relaxed lunch, a night out, or just soaking in some small-town charm over a well-cooked meal. If Kennesaw is a little closer for you, be sure to give their Kennesaw location just off of South Main Street a try.

Finally, are you looking for an event space for a special occasion, party, or corporate event? 1885 Grill has you covered. When you swing by 1885 Grill for dinner, be sure to ask them about their latest venture, Main Street Events by 1885 Grill.

El Pollo Dorado

If you’re craving something bold, flavorful and Mexican-inspired, El Pollo Dorado is the kind of hidden gem that locals love. This no-frills, family-run spot is known for its smoky, citrus-marinated grilled chicken cooked right over open flame. Their famous chicken – paired with rice, beans, fresh tortillas, homemade salsa, and their aguas frescas – is what keeps folks coming back.

WIth a straight-forward, streamlined menu, Pollo Dorado is all about simple food done incredibly well. Hit the drive-thru, grab it to-go, or dine-in – just be sure to show up hungry. If you’re looking for something a bit closer to Atlanta, they’ve got a location in Marietta as well, in addition to a location only a mile or so from Downtown Roswell.

Fish Thyme Restaurant & Bar

Fish Thyme is Acworth's answer to in-town upscale dining, with it's authentic small-town, neighborhood setting. With a chef-driven menu and a great seafood selection, this place serves up seafood with serious flair – think crab cakes, stuffed-salmon, ahi tuna, and more, alongside a strong lineup of wine, spirits and cocktails.

It’s one of those rare restaurants that works equally well for a quiet date night or a celebratory dinner with family. It’s also one of the highest rated restaurants in Acworth. If you’re after polished service, fresh ingredients, and beautifully plated dishes, Fish Thyme Restaurant & Bar won’t disappoint. PS - If you're next door in Kennesaw, you should definitely give owner and chef Steve Dudley's other local restaurant, Capers Restaurant & Bar, a try.

The Happy Taco

Hands down one of the most popular restaurant suggestions on our employee survey, The Happy Taco is bursting with flavor and full of charm. This spot serves up a wide range of authentic Mexican fare, from street-style tacos and burritos, to quesadillas and carne asada platters, to authentic birria. The food is made fresh, the portions are generous, and the name fits – it really is hard not to leave happy.

Pro tip: Order a few tacos à la carte so you can mix and match. And don’t skip the aguas frescas or the house-made salsa. If margaritas are your thing, their flights of margaritas allow you to try up to 4 of their latest creations to find your new favorite! Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, this little taco shop is big on taste.

Henry’s Louisiana Grill

A true icon in Historic Downtown Acworth, Henry’s Louisiana Grill is loud, lively, and loaded with zesty flavors. Chef Henry Chandler and his crew have been serving up Cajun, Creole and Southern comfort food here for over 25 years, earning a reputation far beyond the Acworth city limits – including visits from the likes of ABC and FOX 5’s Good Day Atlanta, a prominent feature on Food Network, and a lengthy list of local and regional restaurant awards.

On the Henry’s Louisiana Grill’s menu, you can expect all the Cajun classics like jambalaya, etouffee, gumbo, po’ boys, and even authentic Nola-style beignets, alongside creative house specialties that change with each season. Whether you grab a seat on the patio or a table near the bar, this place is almost always bustling with energy – and the food lives up to the hype.

J.D.’s Bar-B-Que

Looking for a great local barbecue joint within a few minutes’ drive of our Woodstock/Acworth furniture and mattress store or our Customer Pickup & Distribution Center in Acworth? Look no further than J.D.'s Bar-B-Que! On top of their phenomenal sliced brisket, chopped pork, chopped chicken and baby back ribs, they’ve also got loaded spuds and skillets that are to die for. Oh and let’s not forget their appetizers – fried pickles, pimento cheese, hush puppies and more!

With one location in Acworth, another in Woodstock, and a third just up Bells Ferry Rd in Canton, J.D.’s has several restaurants within a stone’s throw of Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet. So if you’re in the neighborhood, you might as well check them out! Please keep in mind that their lakeside Canton location, J.D.’s on the Lake, is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and has its own unique menu.

Bonus Fun Fact: You may recognize J.D.’s on the Lake from the critically acclaimed Netflix series Ozark, starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, where it portrayed the fictional Blue Cat Lodge.

Mr. Tino’s Ice Cream & Tacos

Craving tacos and a sweet treat? Mr. Tino’s really is the best of both worlds. This quirky spot midway between Acworth and Woodstock serves up authentic tacos, burritos, street corn and more on one side – and a colorful lineup of gourmet ice creams, paletas, and other Latin-inspired desserts on the other. Check out some of their delicious creations over on their Facebook page and Instagram. While you're there, be sure to give them a like and a follow!

It’s casual, it’s affordable, and it’s a hit with kids and adults alike. From savory al pastor tacos to bright pink strawberry popsicles, everything is made with care and full of flavor. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the mood for something fun and unexpected.

Rise & Dine Family Restaurant

Despite being a newer establishment, Rise & Dine has already established itself as one of those down-home breakfast and lunch spots where the coffee is always hot and the friendly staff remembers your name. With a classic diner feel and a menu full of Southern staples – think omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, burgers, and more. As a result, it’s a favorite for early risers and brunch lovers alike.

The vibe is friendly, the food is comforting, and the service is fast. Whether you’re fueling up for a day of shopping or grabbing a late breakfast after a mattress test drive, Rise & Dine Family Restaurant is a solid pick.

Tacos El Don

Tacos El Don might just serve the most authentic street tacos in Acworth. That’s why this was another top recommendation in our employee survey. This small but mighty spot keeps it simple with fresh meats, soft corn tortillas, and house salsas that bring the heat. Their al pastor and carne asada tacos are local favorites, and their birria tacos are a must-try.

It’s a casual, quick-stop kind of place with big flavor and loyal fans. Whether you're grabbing lunch to-go or stopping in for a late-night taco fix, Tacos El Don delivers every time. In addition to their Acworth location at the corner of Bells Ferry and Hwy 92, they also have a semi-permanent food truck parked a couple miles north at the Valero station at the intersection of Bells Ferry Rd and Eagle Dr in Woodstock.

Thai Ginger

If you’re near our Woodstock/Acworth store and a fan of Thai food, you’ll need to check out this hidden gem. Take a right out of our parking lot, hang a right onto Bells Ferry, and you’re practically there. Just remember that they are closed between lunch and dinner, and are also closed on Mondays.

Thai Ginger’s Pad Thai and Tom Ka Kai (coconut soup) are top notch. In fact, there’s likely nothing bad on their entire menu! Their prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and their ingredients are always super fresh. Available for both dine-in and takeout.
