Here at Woodstock Furniture & Mattress Outlet, our merchandising team does a phenomenal job keeping our showrooms staged and our warehouse full of products. With over 100 different furniture, bedding, rug and home decor brands, it’s safe to say that we see a lot of home furnishing products move through our stores. We also see the latest products these manufacturers are crafting long before the general public does. Keeping all this in mind, we really do have a front row seat to see home decor trends as they emerge.
As always, the customer is always right in matters of taste – not every trend here might resonate with you, and that’s okay! Trends come and go, and the most important part is that you love the furniture and decor in your home. However, by the end of this short list of hot decor and design trends for 2025, we think you’ll find some fresh inspiration for your own redecorating or refurnishing plans for this year.
1) Natural Wood Finishes Are Back!
For quite some time, opaque paints, stains and finishes have been all the rage. Especially gray and whitewashed finishes. However, a big trend we’re seeing with casegoods in 2025 is the return of natural wood finishes.
While that doesn’t mean that these trending pieces have no stains or finishes applied at all, most have clear or at least semi-translucent finishes. The idea being that the natural wood grain and color are features to be displayed, not something to be painted over.
2) Are You Down with Brown?
Neutrals are still very much in, but we’re seeing a gradual turn from gray undertones to brown ones. As we discussed recently with our article on Mocha Mousse, PANTONE’s Color of the Year for 2025, various shades of brown are definitely making a comeback. Particularly, the spectrum of light-to-medium browns. This can range from barely brown shades closer to champagne and beige, to slightly darker khaki and café latte, to true medium browns like mocha and chocolate.
Don’t want to take PANTONE’s word for it? Well, there’s pretty much a consensus about this elsewhere in the design space as well. Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year is Cinnamon Slate, a velvety medium brown with notes of plum. Behr’s Color of the Year, Deep Ruby, takes that hint of plum color and dials it up even further, however those notes of brown are still very much present. Sherwin Williams Color Capsule of the Year includes a whole palette prominently featuring the earthy Grounded medium brown, a golden brown called Bosc Pear, and a sandy beige called Malabar. In short, if it’s earthy, it is totally in right now. That holds true for hues like terra cotta, rusty reds, olive greens, and mustard yellows too.
3) Mix Things Up with Mixed Media Furniture Design
Are you familiar with mixed media design? Whether we’re talking about art, architecture, furniture, or any number of other things, “mixed media” refers to the practice of crafting something from a variety of different materials rather than with a uniform construction of a single material like wood. Well, mixed media furniture design is definitely a hot trend for 2025.
With furniture, mixed media construction often involves mixing materials like wood, metal, glass, rattan, wicker, jute, or even concrete. The result is typically a complex, multi-faceted, quirky, eclectic look. As we’ll get into more below, don’t be afraid to get a little weird with it in 2025.
4) Keep It Practical with Convenience Features & Storage Applications
This one may seem like it should always be trending, but maybe we’re just suckers for practical furniture design. Regardless, we’re really seeing an uptick in pieces featuring clever storage applications in 2025 – and we’re here for it!
Similarly, we’re seeing even greater adoption of fun, convenient, life-improving features in both casegoods and upholstery. This means more helpful features like under-bed lighting in adjustable bases, integrated USB charging ports or wireless chargers in places like nightstands or power reclining sofas and recliners, and Immersive Audio Systems integrated into your living room seating for an amazing theatrical experience right at home.
Looking for a convenient spot to keep your tv remotes, extra accessories, blankets and throw pillows in your living room? How about secret storage for valuables in your dresser, home office desk, or even beneath your adjustable mattress base? What about hidden chargers for all your devices? We’re seeing new designs doing all of the above. These pieces are truly at the intersection of fashion and function.

5) Don’t Be Square, Curvy Is In!
Design styles seem to go in cycles, just like everything else. Many of the latest products we’re seeing from our multitude of vendors prominently feature curved lines. As such, those contemporary 90-degree angles and straight, clean lines seem to be giving way to a return to subtle slopes, rounded edges, circles, ovals, and curvilinear or organic shapes.
This trend holds true for just about everything in our showroom, from furniture to accessories. You will see these curved lines in more contemporary items like live edge tables and benches, vintage-looking waterfall edge bedroom sets, timeless classic oval pedestal dining tables, and upholstered seating with both curved arms and backs.
6) Don’t Be Afraid of Eclectic Pairings
Our last trend is a big one for 2025. A key idea behind eclectic decor is the mixing and matching of different styles, colors, textures, or materials – not unlike the mixed media furniture design we described above. As a result, this patchwork, mix-and-match factor typically gives eclectic styles a DIY vibe. However, it’s easier than ever for furniture shoppers to get a more eclectic look straight from the factory.
A truly new trend we’re seeing is that furniture manufacturers are offering customers complementary pieces rather than matching ones – even within the same collection! For instance, instead of only making a set of dining chairs that exactly match the color, shape and finish of the dining table, furniture makers are increasingly giving consumers “mismatched” chair options in a complementary color or with a slightly different style. This curated eclectic look is an easy way to add some personality to your space without having to shop all over town for that just-right quirky piece.
