Founded in Dallas, Texas by Amir Loloi in 2004, Loloi Rugs has grown to become one of the most respected names in the global rug industry in a relatively short time. While Loloi Rugs may be younger than the others on this list, as a family business they’re still very in-touch with their roots. Those roots include Amir’s emigration from Iran as a teen, his ensuing decades of rug industry experience, and his travels throughout India searching for rug artisans still hand-knotting rugs the old-fashioned way.
Loloi prides themselves on delivering quality, innovative products and regularly flirting with new styles and design concepts. As proof of this, Loloi has collaborated extensively with numerous famed designers to help them bring their own area rugs to life. Time for 2024’s best selling rug brand runner-up, Oriental Weavers! Among our own substantial selection of area rugs, many of our most popular rugs are manufactured by Oriental Weavers. Founded by Egyptian entrepreneur Mohamed Farid Khamis, Oriental Weavers has come a long way from their early days. In fact, Oriental Weavers began making rugs one-at-a-time with just a single loom in Egypt in 1979. Fast forward about a half a century and now parent company Oriental Weavers Group is one of the largest manufacturers of rugs and carpets in the world! With manufacturing and distribution centers on 5 continents, Oriental Weavers boasts a staggering 800,000 square meters of warehouse space and over 22,000 employees.
Oriental Weavers is also “vertically integrated”, which means that they own the entirety of their supply chains. This gives them complete autonomy over their manufacturing processes and quality control. It also helps them keep prices affordable and wait times short. Their American subsidiary, Oriental Weavers USA, has been a fixture in the legendary Dalton, GA textile industry since 1994. While many Oriental Weavers rugs are manufactured and imported from overseas, a number of their rug collections are proudly Made in America just up I-75 in Dalton!
Oriental Weavers is best known for their high quality machine made (also known as “power loomed”) rugs. Wrapping up today’s rug brand countdown, we present our #1 best selling area rug brand for 2024 – Surya! So, what is it that we (and our customers) love about Surya rugs?
Founded in India in 1976 by established rug-weaver Surya Tiwari, Surya is a respected worldwide manufacturer of area rugs, accessories, décor and occasional and accent furniture. They boast an absolutely massive catalog of over 60,000 products across these different product categories. Now under the leadership of Surya’s son Satya, they have steadily expanded into new markets making them a truly global company. Despite the worldwide nature of their business, in 2016 Surya opened up their new company headquarters and a 1,000,000 square-foot distribution center right here in Georgia, just outside of Cartersville!
Surya makes most of their rugs in Turkey, India, Egypt, Belgium and China. The majority of the Surya rugs in our own showroom are made in Turkey, as are many of their machine-made or power loomed rugs, but they still have other rugs hand-made in India and elsewhere. However, the convenient location of Surya’s warehouse and corporate headquarters just off of I-75 in White, GA means much of their available stock is just a stone’s throw from our own stores and distribution center.
Additionally, we love Surya because they offer our customers a large selection of beautiful, mid-to-high end area rugs. The fact that they have both machine-made and hand-made options, at a variety of price points, ranging from contemporary to transitional to traditional styles, means that they have options for every rug shopper. The broad style appeal, huge rug catalog, and nearby location all factor into why Surya is our best selling rug brand of 2024.
